Windows: The Soul of the Home
Windows Offer Views in Both Directions.
Windows are the soul of the house. During our refurbishment, there is a lot to consider and plan: the use of the rooms, the wiring, water, heating, and electrical installations, the insulation, and later, colors and furniture, and so much more. However, the right windows and doors should not be forgotten. Ultimately, they are what reflect the character and soul of a house. When it comes to harmonizing the relationship between the age of the house, its architectural style, its facade, and the color of the windows, window sills, and doors, it largely comes down to personal taste. However, there are a variety of factors that play a crucial role here.
Proper Planning is Essential!
To achieve a cohesive overall look, good and thorough planning is particularly important. In addition to the question of the number of windows, their size is also crucial. Here, it is important to us to enlarge the existing window openings without destroying the character of the house. The two gable windows on the upper floor were therefore supplemented by 4 roof windows to let in additional light. We decided to maintain the existing window widths. In the other rooms, however, the windows will be designed as floor-to-ceiling to make as much of the beautiful landscape visible as possible. This way, we do not interfere too deeply with the character of the house, but still create an open, natural, and friendly atmosphere where we hope you will feel very comfortable!
Opinions are divided on the choice of material.
When choosing the material for our windows, various factors were important to us. The quality of the material was paramount. Other points included:
- U-value (thermal insulation)
- g-value (solar gains)
- Q-value (airtightness)
- R-value (sound insulation)
- Resistance classes (security)
We adjusted these values with our energy planner to match the building’s values.
To complement our traditional architectural style, we opted for straight lines rather than sharp edges or unusual curves. We deliberately chose plastic windows to ensure low maintenance in the future. Also, the frame profiles were, in our opinion, perfect for the style of the house.
To maintain a certain design freedom for the interiors and the facade in the future, we consciously chose a simple white. The window sills, like the balcony, will be finished in anthracite. This creates a uniform and harmonious appearance.
Even though some windows are still being installed and not yet finished, you can already get a first impression of the future spatial feeling.
