Around the 8th century, about one kilometer southeast of the village, the “Frankenkirche” (Frankish Church) was built, which was the first hilltop church in the area, and its remains are still preserved in a small field grove. Today, the Protestant village church, which emerged from a medieval Marian chapel around 1300, is the spiritual center of Marienhagen.

Surrounded by magnificent nature and only three kilometers from Lake Edersee, the charming resort of Marienhagen is the ideal starting point for excursions to Bad Arolsen, Bad Wildungen, Frankenberg, Korbach, Kassel, Willingen, Winterberg, and the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park.

For vacation guests, a guesthouse and vacation apartments are available as accommodations. A sports field, a small swimming pool, playgrounds, a water treading facility, a barbecue area with a shelter, the village community center with exercise equipment, a bowling alley, and the “Treffpunkt” (Meeting Point) ensure a varied vacation stay in Marienhagen throughout the year. Additionally, Marienhagen has a kindergarten, a mechanical engineering company, a hair salon, and a wellness studio.

Numerous hiking trails allow exploration of particularly beautiful parts of the district on foot and lead to historically interesting and noteworthy sites in the surrounding area.
