For us, sustainability is not a trend or a marketing slogan, but a mindset. Overlook Lodge stands for experiencing nature up close – and for the responsible use of resources. When you vacation with us, you can look forward not only to peace and comfort, but also to a well-thought-out, eco-friendly overall concept that allows for a stay with a clear conscience.
Energy Efficiency with Vision
Our lodge is heated by a modern heat pump that operates efficiently and with low emissions.
This system utilizes natural heat from the ambient air and converts it into heating energy – entirely without fossil fuels. The heat pump is supplemented by a powerful photovoltaic system on the roof, which covers a large part of our energy needs from solar power. The remaining electricity requirement is met 100% by certified green electricity – guaranteed without coal or nuclear power.
The lodge’s furnishings also follow the principle of energy efficiency:
All household appliances correspond at least to energy efficiency class A and are therefore particularly energy-saving. The entire lighting system is based on long-lasting LED technology with warm light colors, which not only reduces energy consumption but also ensures a pleasant lighting atmosphere. This creates a harmonious interplay of technology and nature that combines comfort and environmental awareness.
An e-charging station is available for guests with electric vehicles – as is the option to charge e-bikes.
Both are, of course, operated with electricity from our own PV system or certified green electricity. In this way, sustainable mobility is naturally integrated and actively promoted at our lodge.
Conscious Water Usage
We also rely on smart and resource-saving solutions when it comes to water.
Our faucets and toilets are equipped with water-saving functions that significantly reduce consumption without compromising comfort.
For garden irrigation, we use collected rainwater – a simple but effective measure to save precious drinking water while providing optimal care for the plants.
Indoors, a modern sparkling water dispenser ensures that no one has to carry heavy bottles.
Guests can enjoy fresh, chilled water with or without carbonation at any time – entirely without plastic bottles.
This not only reduces waste but also CO₂ emissions from transport and packaging.
Cleanliness with Responsibility
For us, sustainability does not stop at electricity or water.
We also pay attention to environmental compatibility and health when it comes to cleaning agents.
We exclusively use ecological dishwashing and laundry detergents that are biodegradable and leave no harmful residues. These products are ecological, gentle on the environment, and simultaneously effective at cleaning – for a clean home and a good feeling. We also rely on certified products for our toilet paper.
Our cleaning processes are designed to consume as few resources as possible.
We use microfiber cloths that can be reused multiple times and avoid single-use products.
This creates a sustainable cycle that combines cleanliness with environmental protection.
Habitat for Flora and Fauna
The garden at Overlook Lodge is more than just a place for relaxation – it is a vibrant habitat for numerous insects and small animals.
With native plants, we create a natural environment that provides food and shelter.
An insect hotel and several birdhouses promote biodiversity right at the doorstep and invite you to observe and marvel.
We are particularly proud of our small dry stone wall made of natural stone.
It has now become a popular retreat for lizards, wild bees, and other beneficial garden inhabitants.
These structures are not only ecologically valuable but also aesthetically pleasing and blend harmoniously into the overall appearance of the garden.
To protect nocturnal wildlife, we consciously avoid permanently lit artificial light sources in the outdoor area.
Instead, we rely on motion sensors and warm, low-intensity light.
This preserves the natural day-night rhythm, allowing nocturnal animals such as bats, hedgehogs, or moths to find their way undisturbed.
Sustainability Efforts in Detail
Our philosophy of sustainability is also reflected in many small details that are often overlooked but make a big difference.
For example, we use recycled paper for our guest information, avoid unnecessary packaging, and offer our guests the opportunity to separate waste.
In the kitchen, containers for organic waste are available, which are composted or disposed of via the organic waste bin.
We also pay attention to durable materials and timeless design when it comes to the furnishings.
Many pieces of furniture come from regional production or were manufactured from sustainable raw materials.
Wood from certified forestry, natural textiles, and recycled materials ensure a healthy indoor climate and an authentic living experience.
Upon arrival, our guests receive an overview of all sustainable measures and tips on how they can make their stay even more eco-friendly.
This includes information on waste separation, the use of e-charging stations, and the economical use of water and energy.
In this way, sustainable action becomes a shared experience.
