When a Retreat Becomes a Film Set – Overlook Lodge as a Filming Location for “Tulpenkind”
Between Retreat and the Silver Screen:
A Film Project Guesting at Overlook Lodge
Overlook Lodge stands for tranquility, nature, and conscious time-outs. For many of our guests, it is a place to switch off, pause, and intentionally distance themselves from everyday life.
It was therefore all the more special for us that our house was recently allowed to take on a completely different role: as a filming location for the independent film “Tulpenkind.”

More InformationThe film “Tulpenkind” is the thesis film of director Lena-Marie Eisenschmidt, who is studying film directing at the Ruhrakademie in Schwerte. The project is her most personal and ambitious work to date, combining intense character development with a dense, atmospheric narrative style. At the center is the protagonist Laura, who has built a seemingly stable life under a new identity—until her past catches up with her. The film poses quiet but poignant questions about identity, loyalty, and the possibility of truly detaching oneself from past life decisions.
“Tulpenkind” moves between drama and heist elements, yet always remains close to the emotions of its characters. The story thrives on nuances, glances, and unspoken conflicts—precisely the qualities that played a central role in the choice of filming locations. Overlook Lodge provided a calm, clear setting for the shoot and an atmosphere that supported the storytelling without pushing itself to the forefront.
As an independent thesis film, “Tulpenkind” is being realized without a major studio behind it and relies on commitment, idealism, and support. The filming is taking place in the North Hesse region, including Kassel and the surrounding area. Additionally, the project was accompanied by crowdfunding platforms and social media to provide insights into the creative process and raise awareness for independent filmmaking.
We are grateful that Overlook Lodge was allowed to be part of this special film project. Such encounters show that our house not only offers space for relaxation, but also for creativity, stories, and new perspectives. We wish Lena-Marie Eisenschmidt and the entire team of “Tulpenkind” continued success on their journey—and look forward to seeing the finished work on the big screen one day.
